San Antonio RiverWalk

San Antonio, Texas, is of course world renowned for being the site of pioneer Davy Crockett’s last stand, but there is much more to see and do than wander around a dusty old mission. San Antonio is alive with exciting attractions for the young and young at heart. There is so much to do and see here that you will want to come back year after year.

The center of San Antonio is dominated by the Riverwalk. Running through downtown, and one story below street level, the Riverwalk is a network of walkways along the San Antonio River. Both sides of the river are lined with shops, hotels and restaurants. Originally designed for flood prevention, it has become a tourist attraction in its own right. The walkways and bridges provide easy access to many of San Antonio’s most popular attractions, such as: The Rivercenter Mall, San Antonio’s largest mall, which houses a wide array or shops and eateries; the Arneson River Theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre located in La Villita (Little Village); Hemisfair Park, located along Alamo Street, which features water gardens and a wood and sand playground; the Institute of Texas Cultures; and the Tower of the Americas.

The Tower Life Building, a 403 foot tower completed in 1929 just before the Great Depression, offers panoramic views of the city. For a look into the strange and fascinating, visit the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum and wax works. You can also take a river cruise right through the middle of downtown and get a one of a kind tour of the city from the tranquility of the San Antonio River.

If you want to venture from the city, you can visit Sea World San Antonio or Six Flags Fiesta Texas, both located just a short distance from San Antonio and both the largest of the franchises in the United States. Also located just a short drive away in New Braunfels, you can visit the largest water park in America and the #1 rated water park in the world, Shlitterbahn Water Park and Resort. It’s 65 acres of water attractions to keep your entire group cool during the summer months. Finally, Scattered around the area you will find smaller parks like Green Acres Golf and Games, Morgan’s Playland and Splashtown, to name a few.
